Basil

Basil

Basil is commonly used in cooking because it is a healthy and flavourful herb to supplement any dish that you are cooking. Basil can also be taken as a health supplement because of the benefits it is said to offer to overall well-being. Basil contains many flavonoids, agents that work in human tissue to protect your cells and chromosomes.

Basil oil has been known to slow or prevent bacteria growth, even those that resist antibiotic treatment. Types of bacteria that basil oil is capable of fighting include e.coli and staphylococcus. Basil oil also contains Eugenol, a powerful anti-inflammatory that many people take in place of common drugs like aspirin and ibuprofin. As a result, basil is often taken as a homeopathic remedy for things like rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel syndrome.

Basil is also a source of vitamin A, which is believed to lower cholesterol and protect the body from free radicals. It also contains magnesium, a great mineral for relaxing blood vessels for optimum blood flow through the vital organs.
