People with health conditions that cause high levels of the amino acid should definitely avoid the supplement. It could cause high blood pressure, stroke, mental retardation, and other effects in people with these conditions. However, in spite of these warnings, l-phenylalanine is quite safe for most people who are trying to lose weight, and it can actually benefit them in other ways as well.
