Supplements useful from head to foot
One of the biggest problems we encounter when travelling may well be stress. New environments and strange sights, sounds, and even foods and water can upset our body to the point we become ill. That can definitely take the fun out of a vacation. In this post 911 world we now find it can be difficult, particularly when traveling by air, to bring along every little pill and powder we normally take at home. Even shampoo and body lotions are suspect and must be carefully packaged. So the result is we try to pack light and leave most of our supplements at home. So what’s left and what is important to bring along when travelling? Aspirin or one of the versatile headache remedies.
Headaches are a common complaint, especially when flying. Sometimes our inner ear complains about the altitude changes that create pressure and that can hurt. Keep a headache remedy in your carry on luggage just in case. After sitting for hours you might also want to take something for the back pain you’ll get from sitting in that cramped position for so long.
Bring along your daily multivitamins
It is always advisable to take a daily dose of multivitamins and bringing enough to last you along when traveling is a good way to insure you take all those necessary ingredients each day. Vitamins A, B-complex, C, D, E, and K along with the necessary minerals will help keep you healthy when encountering the stress and strain of travel. Vitamin C might even be doubled in dosage because it helps boost the immune system and keep flu and colds from getting to you.
Stress is a big vacation spoiler
During times of stress it can be helpful to support your adrenal glands by taking some high potency vitamins and mineral supplements along with stress relievers such as ginseng and kava kava. Eating a good balanced diet which includes plenty of vegetables and fruits, while also limiting your caffeine and sugar intake will help keep your body and mind feeling good. Exercise is another beneficial way to relieve stress and help you stay in shape while traveling. Stress can cause bowel problems by increasing the amount of bile in your stomach, leads to gallstones, and elevates the cholesterol level. It can also be the cause of insomnia, depression, and anxiety while definitely putting a strain on your vacation plans.
Herbs are natures most effective travel supplements
Among the commonly prescribed “natural” supplements to be found are those classed as herbs. The more commonly known are capsicum, valerian root, hops, ginger, and passion flower. Each are naturally occurring and considered safe and beneficial. Many herbs benefit by relieving the pain and swelling in joints and muscles brought on by over working them. They further benefit by helping manage the cravings we suffer during withdrawal from alcohol or smoking by reducing stressed nerves. Hops can be effective at creating a relaxing sedative effect to help reduce insomnia and indigestion. Passion flower seems to have act as a mild tranquilizer, relaxing spasms of blood vessels which can cause migraine headaches.
